The Ceremonies with Ayahuasca

The ceremonies at the Sowewankeri Ayahuasca Healing Circle are held in a healing temple in a traditional way. The Ayahuasquero (Ayahuasca Shaman) sings Ikaros (medicine songs) and prays to the Great Spirit and the Medicines (Bush doctors) for the participants’ healing process.

In the ceremony circle we work our processes as brothers and sisters. It is a perfect space and time for introspection, healing, self contemplation, awaking our minds, opening our hearts, and recognizing the evolution of our being.

It is recommended, that before experiencing an Ayahuasca Ceremony, to avoid creating expectations from others’ experiences or books, as it is not necessarily like that. When focusing our attention on a mental desire, we inhibit the space for the real experience. We are beginning a personal relationship with Ayahuasca and our experience would be just like that. Before participating in a ceremony we recommend that you keep your mind free of judgements and fears, and to open your heart.

At the ceremony, the Ayahuasca’s vibration produces a deep reaction in the body, mind, emotions and spirit. It helps us to discover the causes of our diseases and also teaches us how to heal. It allows us to see, understand and conquer our deepest fears to reconcile our conflicts and release physical and mental blocks. Ayahuasca helps us to revitalize vital energies and to awaken a higher level of consciousness, allowing us to connect with our “inner master”. The Ayahuasca ceremony begins a relationship with spirituality that can to last a lifetime.

As our master Don Ignacio Duri says when inviting the Medicine, “we are now going to see what are we made from”. That is why courage and concentration (focusing) during the Ceremony is considered the best way to keep centered, and to take advantage of the deep experiences, which can be revealing and wonderful.

In the ceremony, Ayahuasca opens for us a connection with the ancestral memory and wisdom. It helps us to connect with our essence and to clarify our vision.

The purge

As a sacred purifying medicine, Ayahuasca normally heals, teaches and guides by producing different kinds of purges, such as vomiting, sweating, shaking, crying, diarrhea and other kind of purification effects.

To purge in the ceremony is good to clean our body, open our mind and heal our emotions. Nevertheless, all this process is relative, since we can experience a magical journey in one Ayahuasca session, or we can experience many sessions involving purging without understanding or clarifying much.

We do not classify the ceremonies as good or bad, as  there is always the opportunity to learn from the teachings. Ayahuasca doesn’t always give us what we want or expect, but Ayahuasca gives us what we need to see and understand. As our Ayahuasca Masters teach us, it is easy to drink Ayahuasca, the challenge is to take what we learned during the ceremony into our daily living.
